Lindal Skirt
The Lindal Skirt knitting pattern is part of my Lindal Collection, which focuses on short-row knitting techniques and highlights the way color pools within areas of the design. The short-row shapes used in this skirt are unique in that they cascade from the waistband to the hemline in an ever increasing gradation from smaller to larger shapes and back again. The linear element of the skirt is very flattering to all body types.
Suggested Yarn: Plied Yarns North Ave
Yarn Weight: Fingering
Gauge: 14sts and 28rows = 2” in Garter Stitch
Needle Size: US 0 - 2.0mm and US 4 - 3.5mm
Yardage: 300 - 3500 yards (274 - 3200m)

Sizing: This skirt is knit sideways allowing for a lot of flexibility in sizing. Each panel is outlined based on length desired. The number of panels will determine the final width of the skirt. It is easy to adjust the width by simply adding or subtracting a panel unit.
Length: Information is included to knit this at each of the following lengths - 5”, 7”, 9.5”, 12”, 15”, 18”, 22”, 25”, 29”, and 33”. This allows for the skirt to fit anyone from a 3T in toddler sizing, to a 6X+ adult.
Yardage: Based on Length and Size. Estimates are included in the design. This pattern also makes a great stash buster!!!
Fit and Finishing: This can be finished in a number of ways, either using elastic within the waistband for a truly tight fit, sewing in a zipper to the side, or without any additional treatment. This will depend on the optimal fit desired. If fit snug to the body, you may want to include a zipper and this will then wear like a pencil style skirt with a little flare at the bottom. If you prefer a little more volume, this can be achieved with additional panel units and a 1” elastic waistband. The knit design itself uses a 1” fold-over stockinette waistband.
Trim: An optional decorative trim is included in this design. This is not included in the length, so an additional 4-6” should be added to the length if you want to include this feature. (The 1” waistband is also not included in total length.) For example, if you are looking for a finished 15” skirt, you will want to knit the 12” skirt and then add the trim.
Diagrams: A vector diagram is included in this design to serve as both a map for shape placement and as a color planning sheet.
Yarn: I am working with a beautiful series of skeins from Plied Yarn Company. www.pliedyarns.com This fiber is perfect for this application as it has the strength to stand up to repeated wear and general friction associated with sitting and moving. Although many yarns would look lovely in this design, Plied makes an exceptional product that will make this skirt a treasured heirloom.
Additional thoughts on yarn - As suggested by one of my test knitters, this design would be lovely as a full length maxi skirt done in linen for summer wear. I would add to that, that both silk and hemp have incredible qualities for high wear and durability.
